Hi everyone, just looking for some advice in an area I know nothing about, exhausts! I'm looking to buy a new exhaust for my MK1 and I'm wanting a large one that makes plenty of noise! Here are my questions:
Are only certain exhausts compatible with certain cars?
Will it affect performance/insurance?
Do those bolt on type things for the end of the exhaust make any difference to noise?
Is it simple enough to cut away a space for it on the rear bumper?
Can everyone give me a rough estimate of how much a garage would charge for exhaust + fitting?
Finally, anyone got any exhausts they can recommend?
Thanks for any help, sorry I'm not at all clued up on this subject!
Cheers

well cant give you any advice on a "big exhaust" but i fitted a normal one to mine and it cost e about £180, that was just for the parts that make up the whole exhaust and i fitted it myself. Its a straight forward job but obviously a garage will charge alot more than that, especially if it involves a bit more effort to fit,

Will it affect performance/insurance? performance, slightly. insurance, could do
Do those bolt on type things for the end of the exhaust make any difference to noise? dont bother
Is it simple enough to cut away a space for it on the rear bumper? standard bumper can be cut
Can everyone give me a rough estimate of how much a garage would charge for exhaust + fitting? depends what type, i had twin 3" b/box and was welded on £170 and well happy with the sound, very very deep and rumbly
Finally, anyone got any exhausts they can recommend? Tiger exhausts, Tiger exhausts, Tiger exhausts (they go upto 6" tailpipe with a 3" bore)
Thanks for any help, sorry I'm not at all clued up on this subject!

i am considering having another put on the other side of my car to!

Cheers for the advice, went to a local garage today and had a look at some exhausts, found just what I was after for £100, with a bit extra for fitting. The diameter of the tail pipe is about 15-17cm, which will do me just fine!
