I live in a supposedly "posh" area of London (ha!) and have had my car broken into twice in the last week. It's a lowly 1996 Punto 75SX (P plate). First time they'd bent the passenger side lock until it opened, and rifled through the glove box (what a surprise, morons.. nothing in there!). Then last night, someone had a go at the drivers side (more damage this time), but I'm not sure they got in. The locks were left "half on" if you know what I mean. They were very sluggish to lock today, but by this evening had improved. Both locks still work, but I doubt either would survive another attack.
The car is empty, and I've got a Disklok on the steering wheel now hoping to act as some kind of deterrent. But is there something else I can do? Are the locks on this model particularly easy to get into? Could I get someone to fit different locks that would be harder to force open? I already have a different key for the doors and filler cap to the one for the ignition. The dealer who sold me it from new gave me the wrong red key, and it wasn't noticed until I was having the locks replaced under insurance after getting broken into a couple of years ago. In the end they left the old ignition barrel in.
This brings me on to the other question. Many people online claim to be able to supply new code keys for Fiats. But, without me having the original key for this car, would one of these people still be able to manufacture one?
Thanks
