I have a Punto 1.6 Dynamic Reg in 2002. Mileage 78,000 Km ( 50,000 Miles ) my question is When should the Timing Belt be changed, and IF it were to break is it likely to destroy my engine.
I have no idea if the belt has already been changed .

Please stop driving the car until the belt and tensioner are changed. Sods law, now you know about it, the belt will lose some teeth and you will be looking at serious wedge to get it fixed.

I speak from painful personal experience with an HGT.

Also get the water pump replaced. Its effectively cost-free on labour to do with the cam belt.

Thanks Guys - car booked in for tomorrow - replace belt, tensioners, water pump so all should be O.K.
