PLZ!

My son has a 97 Punto, and it just WON'T start. Died Yesterday on the freeway @80 MPH. There is no ignition at all - nada. CODE goes off after about 2 secs. Injection indicator goes off. When checking the battery (as mentioned in other threads), it shows 11.xx volts while cranking the starter, so that seems to be OK. I suspect the ignition relay may be at fault, but how to check?

There is NO ignition (screw inserted into HT wire) - I don't have a wrench to pull out the plugs. Plugs and HT cables are ned (< 2 month old).

There seems to be a lot of people here, who knows what they are talking about.

HELP! HELP! My son has too little money (don't we all).

Thanks,
Michael on behalf of Sune.

on my old car, it used to cut out all the time on the motorway, driving at 30 you name it, it would cut out.
i tryed everything to fix it, i changed the battery, spark plugs, fuel filter,ht leads.turned out to be the fuel pump.
worth checking it out

Hi Wozza1, thanks for your reply. I don't think it's the fuel pump, as there is simply no ignition at all!!! Suggestions welcome!

I hear the fuel pump for about 4 seconds, then while trying to start.
While trying to start, the fuel system indicator goes out.
Again, NO ignition at all.
I can hear (and feel) the dual relay clicking.

Have now checked the dual relay. Both relays work as expected.

I'd be looking at something ignition related. Coil packs or maybe the crank position sensor. The problem may just be in the wiring for the sensor/packs or in the parts themselves. Try unplugging all the wiring connectors you can see under the bonnet and then plugging them back in. This might clean some dirt or corrosion off the wiring contacts.

Thanks guys,

We are having it checked (ECU) by Fiat tomorrow - then we will see.

I will get back when more info is available.

Well, turned out to be the crank sensor - as suggested by T14086.

Thanks.

Michael
