I have an intermittent starting problem on my 1.2 8v.
When the key is turned to start the engine, it will start and then cut straight out again. Then when I try again, it will turn over, but sounds as if there is no fuel in the chambers, or no compression. I have to give it some gas to get it to start then hold the revs on for a couple of seconds. If I give it the gas and take my foot straight off, it will die again. Sometimes it will start first turn of the key. Other than that, it runs sweet as a nut.

Also, since having the clutch changed, 5th gear is very close to third and reverse can be selected without lifting the collar up.

Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

Take of the throttle body and give it a good clean with carb cleaner, cleaning the idle control valve too.

When its put back on, it will need some gas to get it going, but once it warms up with will settle down and should fire up okay from a cold start.

Check the connection of the connectors around the throttle body too (MAP, ICV, TPS)
