I have a 2000 Mk 2 Punto with the 1.2, 8V engine. Because the original had so many miles on it (160,000) and the head gasket was blown and the clutch was ready to to go. I replaced the engine with a newer motor (2003/4 I believe) The swap was pretty straight forward and not that difficult. However I am faced with a problem. The engine when you start it up purrs like a kitten and sounds good. But usually after about 20 minutes a problem surfaces. The engine at normal operating temperature will suddenly die and will not restart until the engine cools down. For the most part I have replace most of the sensors, replaced the thermostat plugs filter. But I have not been able to rectify the problem. I have also checked all the connections. I did manage to get the car to a local company the specializes on ECU’s but he could not find a fault, and not stored fault codes were stored. I would like to take it into Fiat but the vehicle is not taxed or insured. The only problem with taking it to the local dealer is that some of my friends have used them in the past and have been fleeced by them.
Can anyone help me out here?
Do you know if the ECU has a safegaurd type feature that will shut the engine down
(fuel cutoff, electrical cutoff etc).
Thanks
Greg
