Hi all, I need some help please!!

My engine has been ruined by a slipped cam belt due to a woodruffe key or pulley bolt failing???

My warranty company wont pay out as they said its due to the part not being set properly in an earlier repair. I had my cam belt changed 6 months ago but the garage are claiming they wouldn't have touched this part when doing the cam belt change.

Can anyone tell me if this is true or not and also what other engine work would result in this part being touched, as I've has the car more than 2 years and I don't remember having any other work done involving this part.

Its a punto tjet 58 plate if that helps. Any info would be really helpful.

get a 2nd opinion/take legal action,

your in wrong section of forum btw. :)

the belt couid of slipped for a number of reason's. you need a mech to
look at it properly..thus getting a written report.

on a 58 plate - your looking at the grande punto there
The mk2b punto finished on an 06 plate in the UK

The woodrough key is a little metalic block that aligns the bottom toothed pulley for the cambelt to run with to the smooth shaft from the crank shaft

The woodrough keys on early mk2 engines are very soft, but even they dont need removing on a cambelt change

The center bolt i dont think would need removing either!

Also we need more information
What Engine have you got (ie 1.3 diesel or a 1.4 16v)
what mileage was the belt replaced at
what mileage are you at currently
Did they replace other cambelt driven items such as pulleys and water pumps?

I've asked a mod to move this for you - as its better been in the grande section

ziggy

thanks for the replies and my apologies for posting in the wrong place, I'm new to all this! The engine is 1.4 tjet petrol 16v, cambelt changed at around 59k, now on about 62, was only changed in June. I don't know what else they changed but can find out. :)

There is no need to remove the crank bolt.
O the other hand a correct fitting of the cam belt, requires the cam pulley bolt to be loosened.
There is no key for the cam pulley. It's only kept in place by the bolt. incorrect tightening could cause trouble.
In my opinion the garage that did the cam belt change is responsible.
