Technical Problem with a door lock.

Hi all, got a little problem with the drivers door (LHD) lock.

You try to lock it from the outside and it's blocked, so I tried to lock it by lifting the inside door opener then pushing the button down and the button is blocked.

So I've just tried accessing via the passenger door, then pushing down the button on the closed drivers door and it works.

But then I tried opening with the key and it didn't work - it's as if something has come adrift???

Anyone got any ideas? I assume I get access via the inner door panel??

This may not help too much, Its a guide I made on changing door locks over, but it should help you with getting to the inner door panel at the very least:



I would check the door link rod (the white plastic rod in the video) there is also a little lever you can move on the side of the door, see if it has been pressed round by accident?

That's absolutely excellent, I'm sure it'll be the white plastic socket that's become disconnected.

I hope that helps you if not then I am sure someone will be along who can at the very least it shows the easiest way to get access to that part of the inner door

I have just had this with my panda, the white bar was not disconnected and it seems that the internals of the lock had became disengaged from the lever at the back of the switch. Some fiddling got it to engage again but that only lasted a few weeks. Finally I took the opportunity to get the ignition and locks working from one key and changed all the locks over to new ones

I stripped it down today and its the screw at the back of the lock (obvious when you get the lock off ) was loose allowing the guide to slip by the lever thus preventing it to move. If you've got a right angle crosshead screw driver you can tighten up the screw without removing it

Well I've just had a look at Wendy's car door lock and it looks like the problem is the door key barrel/lock itself.

You can turn the key but there's very little movement in the cam on the inside, so I'm going to order a new one - just a tenner of Eblag.

Try stripping it down and tightening the screw (theres only one ) first. It only takes a few minutes and you've nothing to lose

That's a good idea but I couldn't see any way to get into it?????

Not on mine there isn't !

Only the early door locks (and Marbella's) had the 'adjustable' crosshead screw. Later locks are held together with a pin
