General Power steering pump

This is third hand and I will attempt to answer any questions but a friend of a friend who's not very good with cars has a Punto which is X reg and we suspect is a 1.2 of some description with a suspected power steering pump failure. Are there any common failings to watch out for and is it belt or electrcally driven? Thanking you

:yeahthat: there is no pump as nothing to pump.
unless it a van, some of them are Xreg mk1s
