Hello,

I seem to have another problem with my beloved grande punto and everyone here has always managed to offer the right help to save me tonnes of money with garages trying to find the fault.

Well, this time, my GP seems to have an issue with the power steeting intermittently cutting out. It happened a while ago (maybe 6 months) a couple of times but I turned the engine off and on again when it happened and it seemed to be ok. Yesterday while I was driving, everything was fine but then I went to parallel park and it kept cutting out (particularly when I was going from full lock one way to the other). Every time I restarted the engine it would work fine until I started to heavily steer again. When driving in a straight line, it seemed to work fine.

I know my battery isnt the best anymore and was told a while ago that it would need to be replaced soon as it wasnt holding a full charge properly or something (I'm a total novice on these things). Could this be the issue? I've been looking at other peoples issues with the PAS and, lots of them are saying that its very power hungry? If not is there anything else I should be checking? (sorry if this question has been asked and answered a million times before).

Its a 2006 Grande Punto 1.2 Active.

Many thanks for any help.

Al(most al)ways the Holy Trilogy: Battery- Ground - Alternator ... sorted by fix easyness which nicely fits the probability ;-) !

If someone here helped You fix -or better, understand- your issue, hit the thanks icon @ bottom right corner, it's free and makes us feel helpy ;-)

It seems as though it was the battery, which has been changed and now (so far at least), the power steering hasn't turned off and has been ok (but I've only driven it once since as we're not supposed to be going out anyway because of all the crazy going on right now)

Thanks for your help to both varesecrazy and Bernievarian.

Thanks for the update ! Please confirm in a few weeks if it's still ok ...

What battery.. and cost ??

My GP will probably need one soon

Charlie
I put this one on mine last September:
https://www.amazon.co.uk/Exide-Eb620-Starter-Battery-62/dp/B006TCCHLS

Not sure why Amazon says it won't fit the GP (2008 1.2 manual petrol), but the store I bought it from said it does and it has worked perfectly until now :) Before I changed the battery, it was starting to have starting issues (cranked but wouldn't "catch"). No such issues after changing it.
