Does anyone here remember watching or hearing of a BBC programme of a Tsunami which is predicted to happen after 2010?

I remember it was repeated and also the tsunami predicted would be caused by an island falling into the sea and the resultant wave would wipe out a lot of America and even affect us.

Ideas anyone?

Liam

Oh it's bound to happen at some point somewhere sadly, there's nothing you can do to stop them short of putting a country on stilts....

This tsunami was a fairly big one, unusual that any of us have lived through it because things like that generally don't happen too often. The huge death toll this time wasn't helped by the fairly high density of population nor the number of small islands with no high land or warning. According to the book of records, the highest previous death toll was approximately 30k and it was 115 or so years ago - the wave height was nearly 40m.

I find it difficult that anything like that can be predicted so far infront so am a little cynical but something like this will happen one day - they do happen quite often on the American coast hence they have a number of monitoring stations to give advanced warning but nothing they could do if it was on a similar scale IMO.

Sadly Liam it seems that the timing of this being brought up isn't a coincidence IMO. It has been made public by the Doctor possibly simply to get himself known - it's a well known thing that happens in the science community AFAIK.

Hence whether it's "BS" or not it's hard to know. I would like to hope it is obviously but something big will happen one day, we're helpless and if this sort of thing did happen like that there's nothing anybody can do unless weeks of warning are given.

That picture is scary isn't it though!

I remember watching this when it was first on and I think there was also a recent repeat. It terrified me at the time because of the unpredictability and power of it. I mean things like wars and famine can be helped, something like this is nearly impossible to stop.
