My internet connection this year has limited connection - only some ports are open as I understand it. I called them and they are happy to open any ports I want aslong as it doesn't create a security issue. I want to play Americas Army and (possibly) live for speed.

For AA, stu found me:

AAO Ports Needing to be Open to Play Online
Game 1716 - 1718 UDP ports
Standard UT 8777 - 8777 UDP ports
GameSpy 27900-27900 UDP ports
Auth Server 20045-20045 TCP ports
PBweb 24300-24350 UDP ports (not required as client)

List Out of Ports
1716 for the game,
1717 for the gamequery
1718 for master server query,
8777 for standard UT query,
27900 for GameSpy
20045 for Authentication server
24300-24350 for PBweb Update (not required as client)

So do these looks correct? Does anybody know what "list out of ports" means and whether I need to ask all these to be open?

Cheers!

Can't you configure which ports you want the game to use when you run the game at the Console or Options/Network Menu?

Outgoing ports is where your computer sends data to Servers/Hosts if your machine cannot transmit data then chances are you will not be able to connect to a server.

Similar goes for incoming ports, if the server you connect to cannot respond to your computer then your connection will probably fail.

Trance, the problem is down to the ports that need to be opened at the firewall that is NOT under Paul's control.

The game deffo needs ports 1716-1718 open; not sure what 8777 does; and maybe Punkbuster needs to be opened as well :chin:
