Has anyone connected up a portable minidisk player to a headunit before? Ive got a phono lead with 2 plugs on one end, and one on the other and tried plugging it in but had no luck.

Is there a special adaptor i need to buy?

I know that's true on mine, the phonos are phono outs....

You have three options, starting with properly the best:

If you have an AUX input (i.e. on the front, you could use a jack to jack lead to connect it), you might have, as you say, a special way to connect it on the back but I guess your radio's manual will say whether this is possible or note.

You could buy a FM transmitter unit which will transmit your music over a low power FM signal which you can tune your radio into it, good BUT has problems like interference, you will have to look into this.

A tape adapter if you have a tape deck rather than CD...

I have stuck with CDs, I have enough portable players and formats in my life to make my car MD!

my head unit has BUS IN ports which u connect proper cd/md changers to, but i want to know how the unit knows that they are there, so u can press 'source' to find the MD......im probably wasting my time lol

Hi,

I take it the Headunit in question is Sony, what model number?

Sony headunits with changer control use a very complicated (but clever) protocol to communicate.

basically the two items (changer and headunit) 'talk' to each other constantly it is NOT a simple case of connecting two wires together or other such something.

you can't do it very easily. I have the same headunit. Easier to just buy an MD changer
