Police biased???

Police biased???

This is how I see it:

Well you should try to keep at least copies of those details with you whilst driving, especially now with the photocard license. If you had valid insurance cert/license and TAX to show them on the spot it wouldn't be a problem.
GOOD ADVICE^^^^

I would rather the police pull people over just in case than have more insured, untaxed and MOT'd cars on the road, if i had been pulled I would be happy they were doing their job properly.
MY OPINION^^^^

How can that **** anybody off?! Or do people think the police should stop stopping uninsured, untaxed and unMOTd cars?!

"Erm, go on, what's wrong with my post then?"
I have a good idea!

Don't tell people what they 'should' do pghstochaj that's bound to annoy people! You can say what they 'could' do if you like - after all the whole point of 'producers' is that you don't have to carry the documents.

Anyway, carrying photocopies of licences is no good you'll get a producer anyway (I know from experience). I'd much rather leave it safe at home and walk down the police station than carry it around and lose it or leave it in the car and have it nicked.

I suggested the idea of keeping the documents in my car, and the copper informed me prob not a good idea as this means havin to get all documentation again if anything happened. which is a v.good point.

Not really for you to say though what people should or shoudn't do...

Personally I don't really care but I'm surprised that you're surprised that people pick up on it.

Personally, I don't carry any form of ID on me - got an old fashioned driving licence which I keep at home, along with insurance docs and passport! No photo cards, no works ID, nothing - seems to work for me :)

Well I am just saying that to avoid having a producer you can carry the relevant papers. The use of the word "should" comes from the fact that as drivers, we are told we SHOULD carry them, I speak this from an inpersonal point, not from myself or from opinion.

Maybe my intereptation of should is different to some others on here, however, I don't see how: "Well you should try to keep at least copies of those details with you whilst driving" is anything but advise, I don't feel it is forceful or telling in anyway.

The reason why I took photocopies with me was incase of theft, I am surprised you had problems with that because I expect most traffic cops would accept photocard, tax disc and photocopies of MOT, insurance certificate and paper driving license.

I always carry my drivers license with my out of habit for ID purposes, I guess though Stu you don't have one right from what you have said so I can understand that. For me it's just like carrying my bank card.

When I got stopped (random spot-check on the M1 driving my dad's Skoda for red diesel) I showed them the tax and insurance and a photocopy of my driving licence, and was told not only was a photocopy not good enough but it makes them even more suspicious that you might be pulling a fast one. So even after checking the fuel, tyres, engine number etc and finding no probems they still made me go down the station with it.

Meanwhile, I assume you carry the paper bit too because (stupidly?) just the card is not good enough, and the paper bit doesn't really fit in my wallet, so I keep it locked up at home.

I carried a photocopy, the photocard is good enough for ID purposes just not for driving purposes (as I do not drive now it makes no difference!). I am surprised you had that experience, must have been a consciencious copper!

The card should be enough, it should be microchipped and the relevant date (on the paper version) should be immediately accessed.

TO any I offended by my use of should and not could, I do apologise :D

Lucky me looks like a housewifey in my 'family car' so haven't been stopped yet, but it can't last. I carry my photocard with me as ID, god knows where the paper bit is. Insurance stays in the car just in case but the rest is safely at home, I really wouldn't want everything in the car in case it were pinched, it would make life far too easy for the thieves. Paulie you kow I don't mind your advice posts, someone has to help the clueless boy racers and quote from the relevant sources :)

I have been stopped numerous times and to be fair only in my cars that have looked modified. So I did get a bit peed off there.. But..after having had a car hit by an uninsured un licenced driver I do not mind to much as long as they are not rude to me because I drive a modified car ( normally, as current car is standard)

Derby police have little tolerance with modified cars and I was pulled over because "they thought the car might have been stolen." It was a red rover100 modified with pink graphics all over it and glitter on the wheels.. so highly likely to be nicked ehh!!!!

I spent 20 mins by the side of the road while they checked details etc etc and the car. Which had just come out the paint shop 2 days previous so was in excellent condition. It had a full mot and all mods declared on my insurance. I dont think they were expecting a women, with kids in a suit. But I got pulled 3 days later by a different car. Apparently just random checks.. next time I got pulled over and went and made a complaint and that car did not get pulled again.

I dont mind the random checks to catch dodgy cars/drivers.. but I have been driving 18 months and pulled at least 8 times. Never once for doing anything just for random checks.

P.s I personally think you shouldn't be able to sell a car with the tax.. I think it should have to be sent back.. It should help with the untaxed/uninsured thing.
