whilst out blasting around in the dark, i heard a "POING", feeling slightly scared, i sped up!!

upon chancing upon a cop car (illegally PARKED that is!!) i decided to check my speed, and noticed that i was going 0 mph!

Happy to know i was under the limit i ZOOMED past, smiling broadly :D

unfortunatly as it turned out the speedo has broken, and i am now stuck in Broadmoor

NOTE!! all the above is a lie! apart from the speedo bit, and the "POING", so what i want to know is what people think has gone with my speedo? (which before was kinda errant) and how much it will cost to fix (y)

cable? about 15-20quid new from fiat?

You can check by removing the dash surround and the instrutment panel and see if you can see anything from that end, if not try the end connected to the gearbox. Failing that i am not sure?

I got mine quick enough a few weeks back?

Bloody 'ell, Ive been waiting 3 months now...

Cheers Alex though :D

Serin, odds are yure cable's snapped. But it could equally be the restoring spring in the speedo unit, but that would mean the speedo would go up and stay up

i think its the cable, as before the needle would "wobble", and when i asked on here, the answer was cable!

i really wanted to know costs, howto and where to go as we'll prob send it somewhere :)

£20 from Fiat.

Takes about 20 secs to remove (just undo and pull!) (Well, do a proper job ~15-20mins). But I took 30mins to get it back in...the routing can be a pain in the arse

One trick I've often used for speedo cables is to just replace the inner cable whilst leaving the outer in place. All you generally need to do is undo both ends and remove the parts of the broken cable, and then thread the inner down from the speedo head end.

I don't know if you can do that with a Cinq speedo cable, but it does work for many other cars and certainly saves the clart on of rerouting the new cable.

Arguments against it are: as you're using the original outer cable if there's anything wrong it may cause premature failure of the inner cable, and if you are using a different make, you might have the wrong length inner cable.

The Cinq one works in reverse...also, no factors near me could get an aftermarket one!

I did that when I did the cable Ive just installed in my Cinq. I connected the speedo head end, greased the cable up good and proper, then attached it to the gearbox!
