I know it's still summer but we need to start making plans for our annual Christmas weekender. Last year we did Aberdeen so this year we're heading south again and basing ourselves in Dundee. There were plans to do a reccy run and scope out where to stay and what to do but those kinda got shelved due to recent events. It may still happen but just in case could the locals such as @Mrcento, @abyss113 etc start thinking about where would be a good place for us all to book in and things we could do. It'll be the usual set up of entertainment Saturday afternoon, somewhere to eat and drink Saturday evening and then a gentle run in the cars Sunday morning. Accommodation requirements are the usual: cheap, car parking, and somewhere for breakfast on the Sunday morning is definitely essential

Oh yeah, and the planned date is the last weekend in November therefore the 29th and 30th.

So...who's all in and have you any preferences for entertainment, food etc. Get posting folks :D

Accommodation

1st choice

Premier Inn North just off the Kingsway. Address is

Camperdown Leisure Park,
Dayton Drive,

Kingsway
DD2 3SQ

Prices are £29 as of August the 21st however if they go up there is also the travelodge a mile or so along the A90

Entertainment

Saturday
The first trip of the day is Dundee Museum of Transport, DD1 3LA. As parking is limited we are proposing that we meet at the Premier Inn for 2.30 pm and we'll organise car shares down there. Last entrance is 3 pm so we will be leaving at 2:30. Prices are £3 per adult and it's cheaper for children - price to be added later

There are two options after this which are either head back to the hotels to check in (usually after 3 pm for travelodge and premier inn), shower and change for evening activities or have a wee tour of the Discovery. Prices are more expensive for this at £8.75 per adult so we understand not everyone will want to go.

After this we'll have a leisurely meal and then it'll be time to explore the legendary Dundee nightlife

Sunday

Breakfast and a wee trip out into the countryside

I'd suggest for ease of parking etc the travelodge on the kingsway is probably easiest, accessible and tonnes of space. It's not far from town in a taxi or car should drink be involved.... ok, i mean when drink is involved :D

Food wise, what do folk fancy? i have a few places in mind for most possible suggestions if anybody would like anything non pup grub style :)

Thanks Mark. Travelodge isn't as cheap as it used to be but the Kingsway one is coming in at £31 at the moment and if folks are happy to share* a family room then it's even better. As for food post up your suggestions and let the masses choose

*except me cos I'm an anti-social biatch who'd happily pay more not to have to share :D

Premier Inn at Camperdown's coming up at £29 for a Premier Saver Room.

I stayed at the Travelodge few years ago when I came up for The Local Hero Meet, really crap Travelodge.

Premier Inn Camperdown is only couple miles further up the road, more parking & restaurant on site (providing the heating works).

Premier Inn
Camperdown Leisure Park
Dayton Drive
Kingsway DD2 3SQ

More secure site as it's off the main road.

Staff at Premier Inn were great when I stayed there couple of years ago, asked them if they could get a blanket for Martyn as he was sharing the room with me, guy on reception came & made the sofa into a bed for us.

I'd forgotten about the Premier Inn - cheers for that Andi

Oh and added advantage that it'll do breakfast plus there's Maccy D's and KFC

Both are just along the road from each other, so the same applies to each with regards to taxi's, cars etc, all are basically 5 minutes by car from town centre, right along riverside drive, then right at the roundabout and you're right at travelodge, Premier inn is just another 2 minutes down the kingsway.

There's also a travelodge almost right behind my house but A) it's not as directly easy to get to from town as either mentioned before and B) they are asking £35 a night for a room.

No problem Katie, just thought it's a wee bit safer being off the Kingsway.

Funny enough when I came up back in 2011 & tried to find your flat I found Travelodge Dundee Central.
Pig of a site to get to if you don't ken the roads.

who would be up for a family room ? andi? im paying so mights aswell save people some money

If I can get the time off then Aye.

Can I just reassure folks that if they end up in the travelodge it's equally safe, is situated off the Kingsway and maybe only 50 metres closer to it than the Premier Inn. At the moment the Premier Inn is favourite because it's marginally cheaper and has more amenities but if that changes it won't make much difference overall

Wait....you meant just a general indication from others that they are attending? oops my mistake

[Scrooge]Present? You want a present? [/Scrooge]

Oh ok, I've still got some fiat-scotland pens and balloons in the boot of the car. Will that do you?
