Technical petrol smell

can anyone help me with my fuel smell problem on my cinquecento sporting.when you accelerate after a while there is a strong smell of petrol and the engine seems to lack power does anyone have any ideas on what the cause is and how to cure it

Sounds like it may be putting too much fuel in, or leaking it. Have a good look around the engine to see if there's anything obvious.

Also, check with your local Fiat dealer that your car has definitely been in for the recall - Fiat are changing all Cinquecento fuel tanks free because of excessive rusting.

hi!

i have got a 96 cinq s. during the last week i have smelt petrol coming from the car and have found areas under the car where it appears to be leaking, at the front and back. i am taking the car to a garage, and if they say i need a new fuel tank will i be able to get one from my fiat dealer for free? i dont think the car has been in for a recall.

any help would be appreciated.

pete, will an R reg have had the faulty fuel tank? if it did might phone prev owners and check if they had it recalled etc

Fook knows, but my local (Fiasco) Garage (Priory) Refuse to even tell me if mine (93' L Reg) was even actioned on as part of the recall..as apparently its now closed!!

If it blows up on me they're being sued!!

My local Fiat dealer said they will replace tanks if they haven't been done under the recall. Try a different Fiat dealer.

Mine are P and R reg, both have had new tanks - but the black'un seems to be leaking from the vent line - tank off time[V]

i have been the garage this morning and i was told that i need a new fuel tank. i phoned the nearest fiat dealer and they told me the recall was closed so i would have to pay for the new tank. they want £166 for just the f**king tank. i cant afford to get it for another two weeks so i am gonna just have to keep the tank below half full as the leak is at the top.
