Hi All

My B only has an airbag for the driver. Is it possible to retrofit a passenger airbag?

cheers, Tom

Tom, after the costs involved to do such a thing I would say don't bother.

You will just end up with even less storage space when you remove the glovebox.

Not sure fiddling with the airbags is a good idea. I'd leave that one to the professionals.

Main question would be is the airbag control system common to both single and dual fit units? If not you are in for a new airbag ECU.

Having said that I think the single / twin airbag fits on the Punto were the same except that the empty lead on the single fit system had a resistor on the end to fool the ECU into thinking it had a bag attached and the conversion was simple.

It's just a thought really, was hoping someone had already done it. I'm not fussed about loosing glove box space really, in fact I'd rather my passenger survived a crash than had space to put some travel sweets....

Do passenger airbag models have no glovebox at all or is the airbag mounted in the glovebox door or in the dash above??

picking my B up from its respray tomorrow afternoon wahey :slayer:

That's one way of looking at it, another way of looking at it is; what if neither airbag deploys as a result of your 'fettling' leaving you both dead?

Does you Barchetta have belt pretentioners?

It's far easier to just not crash rather than going through all this hassle. :p

:yeahthat:B is a bit light to have a major 'shunt' in..airbags or not.

My main worry (always) is side impact protection as there is nil above shoulder level despite the doors having impact bars inside.

The way our farmers hammer around in their beat up 4x4's with the bull bars on the front..only a matter of time...(n)

yes... barchetta have belt tensioner. if i remember right barchetta have only one impact bar inside doors somewhere in the middle. air bags will only save you if you are belted and speed is not more than 60-70kmh...

a lot of peoples thinks if they have ABS, 4-5 airbags, belts... they are save on road and press the gass pedale. this helps you only on city driving... if you have impact with 160kmh only pure luck can help you survive.

i couldn't find any crash tests on barchetta so we can only imagine what could happen... well, Robot did some crash test years ago...

You will need to buy a new dash board with this encased.

barchettaparts.com

Then you will need the relevant modules, the ECU may also need to be re-programmed, but logic would suggest both airbags would deploy with the seat belts incase of an accident.

However everyone who knows Barchetta's well will know which age car should and should not have airbags, 1st question I would ask "Have the airbags gone off as they have been replaced"

I agree it would be a great idea to fit them, but it could be more hastle \ cost than it's worth.
