Which reminds me- yesterday I spotted a new UK Post Office van: a Fiat
Which suggests either Fiats are now considered a reliable choice,
or the Post Office have lost their managerial marbles
Let's hope it's the former!

Royal Mail have a lot of Doblos and some Doblo XL. They are generally pleased with them, driving and capacity wise, but the DPFs are causing a lot of grief with the short journey stop/start use. This would of course be a problem with any new diesel vehicle. Very nice to drive, when they are working properly.
Doblo XL is actually slightly wider and taller than a standard Transit van, so there are issues with hitting things.

Interesting, they're painted with the doors on, then the doors are removed for the later factory processes.

Agree looks a lot of faffing around
But understanding when you consider how picky any of us could be if our paint job didn't match!
This was one of the many videos myself and I'm sure others waiting for their car watched. Fascinating, and remarkably clean looking factory, it's almost laboratory-like. The fact fiat are proud of this line enough to show a video of the process is good news, as shows they're genuinely caring about how the cars are built nowadays.

COMAU - Fiat's, factory automation subsidiary, has been a bit special for quite a while.
It's a bit different from the AC Cars factory where I worked in the early sixties, machining parts for Cobras.
The motto outside the factory - "Siamo quello che facciamo" - "We are what we do/make" - reminds me of the mottos you see so often on trucks. My wife and I amuse ourselves on long journeys by thinking up alternatives - so that "Striving to deliver on time" becomes "Couldn't give a s--t if you never get it", and so on.

Just curious after watching the videos (and impatient waiting for mine!), how long does it take them to make one car? Does anyone have an insight? And what's the procedure from there? Does it sit waiting for an empty space on the ship or are there plenty of transporter ship sailings?

Will sit in a yard waiting to be shipped. They roll one off every couple of minutes I believe (this is what most factories manage to do).
