Go attack Dave, then explain to him how he should know from school, oh no you can't because he learnt phoenetic spelling - a new inititive for children in school for his generation. There's a time and a place for letting people off for small mistakes, this isn't a test and within reason a lot of language is ok, maybe not spkin in txt tork cuz of foreign ppl an' such hav2read dis but I think the odd apostophry/comma/fullstop/incorrect word shouldn't get you a telling.
Spelling/grammar is something people learn when they can't learn anything better.
