I'm not aiming to be controversial this is a genuine question as I don't know. Are these basically the same car or is it just coincidence that they look similar. What are the main differences?

It's basically a Mk1 with knobs on, and a slopey (slightly ugly, IMHO -- sorry to those who own one...) front. There are also differences under the skin... -- but you'll need a Marbella owner to elucidate.... :D

There are dozens if not hundreds differences between the cars. Rear hatch is bigger, thicker to accomodate bigger glass panel, rear lights are different, bigger, therefore rear panel{steel pressed element around the lamps etc} is different, side panels are also different, front fenders, front panel, doors{hinges}, hood .... , even some pressed steel elements under the car. Generally the newer the car is the bigger amount of differences it has. If you want guys I can make some pictures and post here, my panda trekking vs marbella aka pandabella spot the differences, Dragonman and other guys with panda/marbella combos can also help:)

Yes they are basically a mk1 Panda, coz Seat were building Fiat's under licence at that time. By the time the mk2 Panda came out in 1986 (with new engines, better suspension, etc) the deal with Seat had floundered.

Seat carried on with the Marbella making its own "improvements" over time, but it's still a mk1 Panda underneath.

There are lots of differences I'm sure, but the fact that it's possible to turn a Marbella into a mk1 Panda lookalike (and people do), show how close they still are. (y)

Always a good idea to do a bit of research before you buy something. ;) :

Highly unlikely as I'm already fond of the Rover but I'm forming a bucket list of cars I have always wanted to own and a 4x4 is on that list so never say never

At this rate of progress you will have 3 on your driveway by tomorrow!!

If the wife would let me I'd already have them all and this includes a Citreon Xantia go figure

I'd have a 2CV (shut up at the back, I haven't mentioned it for a while!), an SM and an XM, possibly a CX & DS as well. That's the Citroen part of my fantasy garage - which needs a very large lottery win & loads of storage space! Xantia's fairly interesting, but a bit weird to lust after if you don't mind the pot calling you black......

Anyway get those 3 Panda's bought and stop pretending you hate them. (y)

Wow you have an XM! You are now by far the coolest person on the forum! You would be massively cooler though if you had a BX, with a 1 spoke steering wheel :D

Only in a fantasy garage sadly.

No, my CX would have a one spoke wheel & the weirdest dashboard pods you've ever seen - the BX was dull in comparison. :). I'd still have a BX 4x4 come to think of it...... ;)

My mate at school had a late model BX turbo diesel whilst we all had hot hatches, it was a regular thing that we would leave for home and his suspension wouldn't go back up! It was a really comfy bus though :)

Never gonna have 3 and if I ever have 1 it will be either a 4x4 or a 100 hp and probably a new one, but I'm getting quite fond of the wife's Punto cvt now I've changed the gearbox oil twiceand filter, had the water pump and timing belt changed, all the brakes done, new wipers, new clips on the wipers as they fall off, exhaust changed. Gonna do the engine oil and filter soon and adjust the new exhaust and it's almost new and is cool to drive in traffic
