We get snowed in a lot here and we have a Spyder, a Marea and a new Panda. But I was wondering how good the 4x4 was for reliability and on snow? If I can pick one up cheaply that isn't tatty I might get it as a backup car for actually getting out of the drive on those nasty winter days.

Make sure you throw a couple of bags of sand into the boot before you go play in the snow....

They have a tendency to swap ends via snap over steer on snow cause the back end is so light.

And on wet bends when you turn in a bit too sharply, as I found out last week!

Anyway 4x4s are great things, just be careful when buying as they are often a ridiculous amount of money.

Had a 4x4 for 15 years now and lived in an Alpine ski village for many winters. I think they're great in snow, we had snow tyres, which makes a big difference. We could go anywhere (on snowy roads) the big 4x4s could go. Couldn't have lived without it!(y)
