Hi
I am a new Panda 4 x 4 owner and I just love the car. It is quite quirky and I am learning to listen to the engine and change the gears when it asks. It has just turned 7.:) Still to try out the 4 x 4 button.

Hello Happy Humba!

No need to worry about the 4x4 button - it will go into 4x4 mode all by itself, should the need arise. 4x4 Pandas are clever little beasties (y)

Technically it’s not a 4x4 button - even if ‘off’ the car will select 4x4 by itself if it needs to. The button ‘forces’ 4x4 but is rarely if ever needed. Turning it on also allows the car to lock the diffs (prevent a wheel from spinning if off the ground), but again, only if the car feels it needs to. Really the only time you’ll need to press it is if you are on a very muddy field.

And in slippery conditions or you will risk ruïning a diff (or two).

Correct, yes -- don't manually force 4x4 mode if the car is on grippy tarmac, especially if cornering as the differentials at either end won't like that. Only use it on a slippery surface where the wheels can slip if they need to, such as a grassy field or snow.
