General P unto: Car of 1994?

I have a mate who thuiks that Puntos are crap. Despite my 1994 55SX laying waste to his 1994 Micra 1.0 16V for accelaration and handling!

What car of 1994 was a better all-round small hatchback than the Punto?
106? Lightweight flyer, built from cardboard
Micra? Dull, slow granny wagon, styled by a 5-year-old with crayons
Clio? See 106 but slower - looks like an AX with different lights
Corsa? Badly-buolt, slow, dire handling, ugly as sin.
Starlet? Overpriced, as boring as Micra

toyota starlet turbo, honda beat, suzuki cappuchino. dunno, it's nearly ten years ago. you have to admit, the micra is more reliable which counts for a lot if youre in the market for a starter car

Punto was the freshest car around in the mid-90s. The 106 was OK but already a couple of years older, and a good deal smaller. Punto has it's problems but it's one of the few minis of that era with genuine small car flair. It's also really easy to learn DIY on, it couldn't be simpler. Punto paved the way for the kind of designs we have now, high lighting etc.

I'd say it was the best car in it's class for a couple of years or so. Now I reckon the Jazz has that mantle. New Punto still feels a bit like 1993 even if it looks a lot more modern. It needs more to be considered the best again.

you'll get bad examples. but ask any (non fiat) mechanic. the micra generally is much better built
