Technical overheating !!!!!

after putting another engine in my cinq sporting the temp gauge is not working and the engine is getting hot (do you think the thermostat is dead)
iv made sure the plug is on the ect sensor

Did you bleed it after you refilled the coolant? I suspect it's air locked.

One thing though, if the "new" engine came with a thermostat and you used that one, there's a chance that silt floating about in that engine has solidified around the thermostat, jamming it.

Check the obvious. Sender may be dead. Earth the wire to the sender and see if the temp gauge registers. If it does, sender is dead and needs replacing. If it doesn't, then sender wiring is buggered!
