Technical Overheating madness

:cry:Woe is me.
Adjusted the connector so a tighter fit. Started it up to see what happens. Started fine smooth idle.Water started flowing as it should . Then as it heated up started idling rough, checked exhaust and now I have the dreaded white smoke:mad::cry:(comes out in fits and bursts at idle and a steady stream on 2500rpm, along with the occassional drop of water(non-oily and clear).
Strange thing is the compression is still good - retested that - and the coolant level hasn't dropped - ie no coolant loss.
Is it reasonable to assume that the headgasket has now gone???

(y)Thanks oldhammer
Will have to price it all up and see what all the parts are gonna cost me - the local fixers are quoting NZ$2000-2500 - that's 1200GBP! Definitely not worth doing at that cost!(n)
If I'm going to do it I know I should be changing all the gaskets, head bolts, thermostat, water pump, cambelt, and tensioner. Anything else??? (apart from head skim).
Don't think I'll get a reply from parts supplier till next week. Out of interest does anyone know a parts supplier who will ship to New Zealand? Might be the cheapest option......

When idid mine, the parts list was,
headgasket -this came with headextension gasket and bolts,
iwent to fiat for main head bolts,

water pump
cambelt kit,
thermostat,
oil,
antifreeze,
it cost me afair few quid but ihad new valves, etc etc,
cost me about 450 gb pound notes,

ispent a further 150 on bottom end, so all in 600 quid for brandnew engine sort of :D

you wont need all that tho, just headgasket kit, water pump and cambelt kit

if you shop round you shouid get it all fairly reasonable price,

just dont buy any chineese parts they is garbage (y)

cheepest option is buy another engine, but its a gamble you couid end up putting a w@nked out engine in, :(

(y)Thanks
Have fired off a couple of enquiries to the only two place in NZ that have any fiat parts - expect both quotes to be about the same(n)
If they're pricey will ask a few uk suppliers and see if it ends up cheaper;)
might take a while to get here but at least it will mean I have time to clear out the garage so I can fit the car in:D
Oh, and move my old, dead 55s that I was keeping for parts!
