Hello all new to forum(y)

As the title says my coop start overheating the other day recently got new valves, belts and pump fitted.
Went to check the thermostat and cant find it,maybe it was removed.Looked in the housing bolted on to the cylinder head

Anyone know where i can find it and any other possibilitys
Thanks
Alan

Is the fan coming on?

Also what sort of condition is your radiator in? If it is on its original radiator it will most probably be pretty knackered by now.

The thermostat is part of the housing that screws onto the nearside of the engine. Its not really possible to run without it.

Another possibility is an airlock. The 20V engine needs to have its coolant bled properly.

Thanks for the info, turned out valuable.
Fans coming on alright, bled it out following the instructions and seems to have solved the problem, but cars still running a bit hot but not as bad as previously .Guage is going between 90 and 100 is this normal?
Ill stick antifreeze in it in the morning and maybe that will help too

Rad looks to be original and not in bad nick. Are they known to give trouble?

The rads don't normally give too many problems other than corroding and the fins falling out over time.

I would say that you are still running a bit hot though. Mine runs at about 80ºC on the gauge in normal running an my thermostat is quite new.

I would guess that you probably still have air in the system. Also check the condition of the cap on the expansion tank, if it is not allowing the system to pressurise it can cause funny symptoms.

Simon.

80 on one gauge can be 100 on another. you could both be running at 90C, which is the operating temperature that the system is supposed to maintain.

what temp on the gauge does the fan come on at? that is a good clue to your gauge accuracy.

The Coupe has 2 temperature sensor though, one for the gauge and one for the ECU the one for the gauge is fitted to the head, away from the coolant so it is normal for it to read around 10ºC lower than the actual coolant temperature.

BTW Jug, why have you got that ordinary car in your signature?

yes i know, that is the whole reason why the gauge/fan comparison is useful on a coupe. it tells you how well matched the 2 temp signals are.

i own it! :p

i'm still looking for another alfa. it wont be long. then my GF is getting the coupe. her insurance is due on 25th Nov so i'll be back in a real car by then.
(or i'll be dirving her punto!)
