Thats shocking, he may sound like a tosser to you but thats not nice to happen to anyone. Having had Lotus' in the family though, he was stupid not to take it to a specialist tbh. We made the mistake once with my dads old lotus esprit which was left for just a general service as my dad had no time to do it. When we went to pick it up, just before we got to the garage this 'mechanic' came flying out a side road sideways in OUR esprit. They then obviously got a right earful from my dad. They tried to say he was test driving it to check the brakes. In end we didn't pay them a penny, and they paid for a full Lotus specialist service to prevent it going to court. Turns out they had done nothing to it but put 100 miles on the clock.
Rule 1: Never leave your really nice sports car with a grease monkey whose job it is to fix fiesta and corsas. Take it to some people who know what they are doing!!

like you say, i feel for him a bit though. Live and learn, he won't make that mistake again.

i know its a working class attitude but THINK OF THE CLAIM! i'd be down my solicitors straight away. the car's value will be seriously affected, so a bit of compo is in order.

Oh for sure, i'm not down with all this blame culture that seems to be spreading over from the US but thats a clear cut case of you have messed my car up and i want it sorted. Shouldn't think he'll get anymore than the cars worth though so its not gonna be that impressive a pay-out, just a load of hassle

That's bad :( he sounds like a twit but didn't deserve that. Considering I got stung for new front wheel bearings after a garage cross-threaded the bolts I've got an idea... never take the car to the garage, just the wheels. Okay you need a spare two, maybe set of, wheels but at least you know you'll take care of your car.

since its a lightweight I'd be worried about that honey comb monoque chassis all being fractured and irreputably funk'd.

solictiter, court, = car getting sent back to england by air (less time wasted) checked out by lotus on a proper jig, get stripped down to its panties, and rebuilt with proper lotus bits from factory, followed by a factory respray.

etc etc.

put it this way, garages have insurance for a reason, I sure hope there's was valid and in date, as I know some forget (namely a mainline ford garage who forgot to update theres, someone internally knew about it, and nicked, not one, not two, but 9cars!!! yes NINE cars from the forcourt. wasn't insured, ford garage lost MORE than just 9cars but a whole lot of sht (2 were customers cars!).

Couldn't be arsed reading the whole thread just got the car fell off jist and came to this conclusion, they couldn't put a nut in a monkeys mouth!
