I'm looking at purchasing a new tv tuner card with freeview and satellite decoders. however, I cant find a list of equipment that I will need and what channels I will get.

Obviously I will receive the freeview channels with simply an aerial (providing reception is good enough).

My main question is about the satellite. We have a sky dish and box hooked up to the TV downstairs. Can I hook the PC up to the same dish? If so what channels wil I get? Is it possible to get the other free Euro channels and also the norweigan footy channels that show our saturday games?

Any help appreciated

All the tv tuners I have ever seen do not decode the satellite signals, they just allow you to connect a sky box to the computer so unless you have found a special one that does you are probably going to need another sky box.
Also, you will require a dual LNB (the thing on the end of the stick in the dish) to be able to recieve 2 channels at once - ie one on your computer and a different one on your tv. If you have sky plus you will already have a dual LNB so you will require a tri or even a quad one!
As for channels you will only recieve the free ones sky broadcast unless you pay another subscription.

All i know is that if you get a special type of TV card (its all on google someplace) you can watch the freeview channels aswell as the pay channels by downloading a descrambler that works with the tv card.

However as mentioned i dont think theres anything good for free on the satellites now.

Cheers.

The one I am looking at at the mo is the Hauppauge HVR-3000 (or poss the 4000 for HD).

I'll have a hunt for that descrambler too Joske :)
