Re: OT-Need New Tyres... Wot you goat & how you like them?

Some people may scoff at what i say, but i had Toyo Proxes T1-R's 205/50/15 on my HGT and they took one hell of a beating and did over 14000 miles, swapped to keep the wear even front and rear regularly up to the point where i sold it and there was still life in them. Road noise was better than the P6000 that were on before them, dry traction was very good and they were nice even and balanced throughout their life.

I agree with Chris... Toyo T1-Rs are the ones to get.

Any body had anything to do with Nankangs?

Nankangs are good in the dry, not the best but good for a budget tyre, not so good in the wet though. They are very hard wearing and do last along time.

Re: OT-Need New Tyres... Wot you goat & how you like them?

If you are willing to pay decent money for performance, i had michelin pilot exalto 2 (michelin PE2) which were really grippy, and wore quite well. For standard tyres, i've used Firestone F580 and Firestone F590 and these are good also. the breakaway is quite gradual on these firestones, so you can push them on a bit, and you can feel them start to slip and have plenty of time to back off. With the michelins i have to say they gripped and gripped and gripped then wham, you were sliding! lol. i soon learned the limits of them and never pushed past that. but to be fair, driving even enthusiastically, as i do, you shouldn't make them break their grip. its only being really silly that'll do that. And when you have a big open car park, and the chance to test your limits, you would be tempted too ;)

Nankang's don't grip at all well in the wet, and please for the love of god, stay away from Kumho Ecsta's! Shockingly bad tyre!

I'm currently running Cooper Xeon 2XZ's on the front, and Uniroyal Rainsport's on the back, the Uniroyals wear like crazy in the dry, the Cooper's are holding up to my "enthusiastic" driving style very well though.

re

Good year eagle f1's GSD3 last a lot longer than the older variations

3 months obviously depends how many miles you do in that time and how harsh you are!

Chalk up another for the Toyo Proxes T1-R's, got these on the 155 HGT in 15" & on the 147 HGT in 17".
Grip is way beyond anything else i've tried & they wear well on the front if kept at 38psi.

re

I know i've never tried the toyo's but on the same hand i'd be interested if anyone promoting the toyo's has tried good year eagle f1's?

Yes tried those, only had them for less than 4,000 miles though before an unfortunate tyre slashing incident involving a psycho-ex. Well the Toyo's cost £50 per tyre less & give 95% of the performance.

Well I do about 1000miles a month.. sometimes more!!

My uniroyals have lasted 5000miles but prob saved me, kate and betty on the M1 that horrid horrid stormy day!!!

Khumo's lasted about 2000miles... might be summit to do with the lack of grip so spun in 1st, 2nd and 3rd in acceleration.

I had a set of Toyo's once and they were horrid!! I said I'd never trust them again!!

Bridgestone & Goodyears I've had good times with.

Never felt rich enough for Dunlop or Michelin's... :(

Anychance you can put up the price you paid per tyre for what you got??

Just so I can see where I need to go for cheap tyres :)

Cheers, Tommy
