Evening all.

Does anyone know of any good video creating software maybe free or at worse and could aquire torrent wise??

I have recorded some telly via media centre and need to slap it on to dvd for my mum. I tried using nero 7 and after 2 hours it then came up with the dvd was not big enough even though it was supose to auto shrink down the files to the space of the dvd i put in.

Cheers in advance

Do you mean video writing software???

depending on how you got the DVD or what format it was recorded is a good way to head anything on an apple is good if not then, maybe a person at PC World can help! or they might send ou worse off than when you started...

Re: -OT- Video creating software

Its not from a dvd.

Its a couple of programs on telly that I recorded for my mum. I am wanting to put them on dvd so she can watch them on her tv. Nero7 said the files were too big even though it should have auto compressed to suit the blank dvd.

Just need a piece of software that I can use to compress the files slightly so they will fit on to a dvd so she can watch them.

Re: -OT- Video creating software

Use the very latest version of Nero, had the same problem with burning DVDs. Or try DVDshrink.

Re: -OT- Video creating software

The fie format is Microsoft Recorded TV Show, or this
DVR-MS.

Appartly they are something new from M$. Nero7 reconises it as a file type though.

Re: -OT- Video creating software

Ok, I have been able to change them from those files to something more sensible. MPEG's.

I try to use nero 7 and keeps coming up with an error. Also, I have got sonic latest version and came with laptop. Sonic when trying to put them on a dvd say it is far too big. and 8gb to be exact yet when I click properties on the files it only says 3gb.

Can sonic compress them or does anyone know of any more software that could compress and put on a dvd.

This seems to be more trouble than its worth. I only need it to be watched once. BUT it is for my MUM :)

If people would prefer to email me a response they can.

Come on guys, my mum needs your help.

if it only needs to be watched once then just hook your laptop to tv and play it like that.

Get WinAVI from Gnutella Network, converts mpeg to a VIDEO_TS file, then use DVD Shrink (free download) to dreate a '.iso' image file which you can burn with DVD Decrypter (free download)

Nero may do some of this but thats how I work and I know it works OK

I should also add, its ded easy, honestly, I know its a mine field trying to do this but WinAVI is the quickest and bestest converter Ive ever used, and DVD Shink and Decrypter are very easy to use.

Cheers for the response. Will give that a whirl when I get in.

Can't hook up to tv. CRT telly with no VGA input. My lcd has in the bedroom but then what do I watch while she is in there for 2 hours (2 episodes).

It worked. Well sort of anyway.

It seems to judder slightly when the movement is fast. I think it might be the speed I burned it at, MAX. It could also be that a compressed it slightly but unsure. I only compressed it to 91%.

Going to try again at a slower speed probably 4x and see what happens.

It was defo a prob with nero.

Cheers Keith

In DVD Shrink it does have a setting to set the compression ration to less than 100%, Tho TBH Ive never had to.

Click the re-author tab at the top to accress compression settings

Glad it helped :)

Another good'n is Alcohol. Can be aquired "torrent wise" hehe

Chris

use nero to burn the files off as an image to the hdd then use iso extractor to extract the files from the image on to the hdd then run them through dvd shrink. sorted.

With writing dvd's you shouldn't go over a x4 write imo as this does leave you with warping on fast sequences. aAlso, if you've had to compress quite alot, say down to 60% then there is a tab on the copy box which you can click on to choose a more thorough form of encoding. Go for the soft option and your dvd should come out smooth.
Hope this helps.

Cheers mike.

I only compressed it down 90% as I it kept saying it was too big for disk. It was trying to burn using nero so thats where that problem was.

Going to tyr again using dvd decrypter.

i will also burn it at 4x speed too. This will give me better results will it not???
