General OLD Fiats you've owned??

Early '80's 128 saloon in blue. Very comfortable and definitely quicker than the 1.3 rivals from Vauxhall, Ford and BL. Apart from comfortable seats and more space than the others, the thing that really stands out was that you could screw the knackers off it and then slow right down to drive through a village in heavy traffic and it was like a ***** cat, smooth and tractable. When you came out back onto a faster road it was fast again. Unlike its rivals which use to run like a bag of .... when you slowed down and fluffed like no-one's business when you tried to accelerate again.
In 1985 I worked for a Lancia dealer (I know, not quite FIATs but with FIAT engines) and had a Delta 1.6GT and a Y10 Turbo. The White Hen was certainly a car to remember, lousy ride and horrendous turbo lag. Talk about all or nothing. Off boost, it felt like someone had stuffed a sock in the air intake and all of a sudden it would spin its wheels and take off like a bat out of hell. Embarrassed more than a few XR3s with that one.
1989 Uno 60DS in silver. Bought new and used as a driving school car. Went at least 40,000 miles on its first set of brake pads and 75K on its rear shoes. Totally reliable and rattle free. Eventually passed it on to the wife and was disposed of to the mechanic who serviced it (the car not the wife) for use by his sister. Eventually met its end in a tete a tete with an ex-army Land Rover. Let's face it, there was only ever going to be one winner in that little contest. Since then, a Punto 60S for she who must be obeyed, since replaced (the car not the wife) by an '05 Stilo Active, and I've returned to the fold with an '05 Panda MJT. Where we go from here we'll find out in a couple of years when we think about replacement (the cars not the wife you fool)

1991 - Fiat Strada 85s (first car)
1992 - Fiat X1/9
1993 - Fiat 128 3P Berlinetta
1994 - Fiat Strada 60
1995 - Fiat X1/9
1996 - Fiat Tipo DGT
2004 - Fiat X1/9
2006 - Fiat Barchetta (Hazels)
2007 - Fiat Tipo 2.0 i.e. Sedicivalvole (AT LAST!!!)

and about 20 non Fiats in between the others

Funnily enough the worst Fiat by far I have ever owned was the X1/9s (all three) the last one was an outrageous money pit that was likely to follow me to the grave and beyond - I have learned my lesson now though, I promise - I will NEVER own another. The best Fiat I had up to now was the Tipo DGT, but I am likely to be changing that opinion for the sedici very shortly :)

Funny thread here. I'm from the USA and the newest fiat I have ever owned was an 81 X 1/9. Alot of the cars you guys are calling old are considered "new Fiats" to us.

I have owned over 50 cars, most of them Fiats so I won't list them all but I currently have a 72 124 Spider that I drive everywhere, a pair of nice 128s (one 74 4 door and a 73 Wagon) and a pair of parts 128s. A pair of 1967 1100Rs. I also have an Abarth 1000 OTS, 4 more 850 Coupes and a lone 76 X. Oh, forgot the 72 124 Spider parts car. Other Italian cars I have are 4 Alfa Guilia Spiders (to make one out of) and a 1934 Lancia Augusta.

My sister has an 82 Spider and three Vespas.

I have a few others that were made in other countries too.

The common thing here is that once you have owned a Fiat you keep coming back to them .
I have tried other makes and models but they are so common and boring, It started with;

124 saloon, 1200cc, Rusty beyond belief but the thing just would'nt die.

125s 1600 twin cam, 5 speed and twin carbs. The first family 4 door to hit the ton. Loved this car but did a high speed 4 wheel drift into a dry stone wall. killed it and nearly did me in too.

A period of crappy Fords, Austins etc, ensued.

Tipo 1600 DGT, very practicle , loved the star trek dash. This car went on and on and on.

Tipo DGT diesel turbo. Real flying machine.

Nissan Primera estate came along. Indistructable but so boring.

124 Spider, this was the love of my life. 2 ltr stage 2 Guy Croft engine, race exhaust, The Works. Took me all over Europe over the Alps Into Italy , LOVED IT .Was going to keep it for ever but a fat kid in a white transit van ploughed straight into me. Bastard. wrote my pride and joy off.

Uno Turbo ie .Rocket propeld shed. Sold that at a huge loss just so I could buy my present Fiat.

Grande Punto Sporting Multijet. Fiat have come a long way but they have not forgot the fun factor. They may have their faults but they have never left me at the side of the road. Unlke the Fords ,Audi , Nissans, Austins and Vauxhalls I have owned.(y)

Have a look at my photos. A few old wagons in there including how not to service a Strada, how not to load a 126 and the worlds worst car for chauffeuring a mayor......

My first car was a Fiat.

It was a 1960 Fiat 600. It was given free to me by an aunt whose father bought it brand new.

It was 33 years old when I first started driving it. Only thing I did to it was to change to have a larger radiator to cope with modern heavy traffic loads and also the tropical heat.

Still have lots of fond memories in that car. Sadly after 3 years of driving it I left to go to US for further studies.

Never touched or saw a Fiat for 8 years after that as they are not sold in US and remaining ones are rare.

Italian cars I've owned after that :-

78 Alfetta which had an Alfa 75 2.0TS in it.

02 Fiat Punto HGT, another blast of a car to drive.

Currently have an 05 Panda Dynamic Dualogic.

Somehow or rather there is something about a Fiat that once you've owned one you will always have another one sometime down the road.

If I were to sell off the Panda today, I'd probably buy a Bravo 1.4 TJet or perhaps an Alfa 159.

02 Fiat Punto HGT.

Fiat Ritmo 60CL 1979,

Fiat Panda 1000 1980,

Seat Fura 900 (Fiat 127) 1981,

Yugo 55 GLS (Fiat 127 base) 1986,

Fiat 127 1050 ( Brazilian made 147) 1986,

Fiat 127 Panorama 1300 Diesel station wagon (Brazilian made) 1985,

Fiat Fiorino Pick-Up 1700 Diesel (Uno base, Brazilian made) 1994 (-Still have),

Fiat Palio Weekend 1,6-16V (made by Tofas-Fiat Turkey), 2000(-Still have.).

Bought a 128 3P new in 1977. Kept it for 3 years. Would love another.

PLUS: Great handling, peppy performance from willing revvy engine (though 4000 rpm at 60 mph was tedious on main roads), good value to buy, looked stylish compared to rivals.

MINUS: Metallic blue paint was thinly and poorly applied, snapped clutch cable at 15,000 miles, driver's seat upholstery started to fall apart eventually revealing yellow sponge filling.

multipla 1.9jtd elx mk1
panda 1.3 multijet sporting
grande punto 1.9 sporting
punto 100hp

Good sporty cars with just a little personality.

See my signature for fiats owned to date. By far the most fun one apart from what I'm expecting from dads lancia turbo powered x1/9, was my first 126. Me and dad put 903 panda lump in it, bit of a faff making an adaptor plate up for the gearbox but well worth it for sheer driving entertainment terrorising chavs in 1.4 corsas :D:cool::slayer:Was surprisingly reliable apart from an appetite for the alloy/rubber couplings on the end of the drive shafts.
