Hi all, my name is Brian and I live inBenfleet in Essex. I have a 1600cc Stilo Active Sport. Today I decided to go to the main dealer to purchase some engine oil to keep in the garage for topping up purposes. The dealer, after consulting his books, sold me two litres of Selenia Performer 5w-30w. I was expecting Selenia 20K so I thought I would contact another main dealer to confirm my purchase as correct. To cut a long story short he told me that The Selenia was not compatible with my car as Fiat do not use synthetic oil in their new cars and they, the dealer, use Castrol GTX magnaflux. Can anybody throw some light on this for me please.

Hi Polecat thanks for the welcome and the info. It's much as I expected. I should have known better when dealing with a Fiat main dealer. This is my first Fiat, my wife is on her third. We have had some bad dealings with the dealerships including my wifes Punto having to be towed home with 56 miles on the clock. just call us gluttons for punishment but just can't help liking the cars, shame about the dealers. Never had a problem with the oil before but after reading some of the posts about The Stilo and oil I thought I would get some just in case it needed a top up. Thanks again.

I think should have been the 20K.
About the oil consumption it is all up to luck and driving conditions: weather, driving style, mileage, etc.
I got some oil a long time ago for "possible"top-up (just in case as you said!) but the oil level has never changed in my car since new, so never needed: if it goes on like this the oil I bought is going to expire.
I think majority of Stilo do easily 1 year (or 12K miles) without the need of an oil top-up, from service to service really unless you do many miles (e.g. over 20K per annum).
Sometimes the forum is too negative because all people with problems post more than the rest of course.
Thanks.

I, too, boought a couple of 20K Selenia's "just in case". I have never had to top it up until today when I was low about half a litre. I now have about 3500 miles on my Stilo.
