Technical Oil filter change

From memory reset the oil service mileage and oil condition, tthe latter will stop regens after 20,000 miles if not reset.
Not many service garages know this. In 6 years I have used 2 well regarded local service men and neither can understand this. One is a well equipped official VW group service point.

The local indepent I use for a lot of things couldn't reset it with his equipment but didn't think it was that important.

I don't think the unregistered current versions of fiat/multiecuscan will do it but one of the older ones (v1.6 or thereabouts) does provided the engine's off but the key's turned to the middle position.

i didn't know about the 20k limit and have always been a bit nervous about going on beyond the nag warning light.

Has anyone managed to reset the oil change / service . If so what version of EcuScan was used ie the unregistered or the full registered version. I have the unregistered.

Yes I've reset with both ECUScan/MESCan.

Can be reset for free with ECUScan V1.6 (an old version). After version 1.6 & with MultiECUScan you have to have the registered version.

With 1.6 you connect to the Engine ECU and then select "Actuators". After 1.6 and with MES you select "Adjustments".

As already mentioned it it important to get the oil change reset otherwise at some point the ECU will stop doing DPF regens to protect the engine but this will stuff your DPF due to excess clogging that normal and even forced regen cycles may not be able to clear.

Well last week I did yet another oil change.

In the past I've mentioned how difficult it is to get a "square on" drive with a 32mm socket on the oil filter housing.

Previously I have used a collection of extension drive bars and universal joint.

This last change I found that this is a much better combination

32mm 1/2" drive socket, 1/2" to 3/8" converted, 3/8" drive ratchet.

This combination allowed just enough room to be able to single/double ratchet drive click to slowly and squarely undo that stupid plastic filter cover.

Another thing I noticed is that MAHLE filters are now supplied with rubber/nitrile black 'O' rings as opposed to the previous 'white' and softer 'O' rings.

I've found these traditional 'O' rings to be far more difficult and resistant to rotation when screwing down the filter housing end cap, despite lubrication.

Next oil change will be interesting! Think I might buy a new end cap just in case the current one gets wrecked when I try to remove it next time.
