Grande Punto oil consumption

my 2009 1.4 punto active uses 2 to 3 litres of the recommended engine oil 5/40w between services. i am tempted to use 5/30w witch is cheaper and more readily available . any thoughts.

im not sure but as 5/30w is presumably thinner, youd need to change more often? also wont there be an issue with mixing oils? or doesnt that matter?

thanks lou .the other cars in the house use 5/30 .just a bit wary changing to this with modern engine requirements .
