Right story as follows

Was a good idea to replace some spark plugs have now turned for the worse. I replaced the spark plugs on my 899cc engine with B. Super 4 ones same as the normal spark plug that has 1 contact but this have 4 on each spark. Great I thought, no it didn't - put them in and the engine was struggling very hard it was very rough (Leads are in the correct position in the correct firing order). So this made me nervous, so I put the old ones back in (still a little rough but no as bad). I however noticed on driving on the old set that the car struggles in picking up speed in the 1st few mill seconds then its okay, this happens on very gear change.

So off to Halfrauds, another new set as the same set as the ones I orginaly had in the car, okay still little rought but alot better than the super 4. Now new problem, its rough still has there is alot of burning/carbon on the b.4 spark (it was BLACK) - so put in opitmax to clean it out. I hope its working as I filled the tank up last night, travelled 40 miles today and its used 1/4 already!

This is not right, pete - is it the timing that is gone? - if so, what costs am I looking at though FIAT?

Just a follow up from something I've seen in the mpg/oil post, is my lamba sensor shot or can I clean it?

If its only started since you replaced the spark plugs, I'd blame it on them....have you checked the gaps and set them as specified (if possible)??

Faded red anyone?

I had a slightly split lead ages ago and it made my car run rough and lack of power, especially in 1st setting off. It got hotter too. Took it to car tuning place to see what they thought and after an hour they rang back to say they sorted it. They fitted a new set of Bosch leads and its run fine ever since. Apparently fiat leads are prone to splitting.

Took it out the next village, it feels better more revs, but the strong smell of fuel in the exhaust is still there. However there is alot of carbon/black stuff spitting out of the exhaust, this conside with the performace of the engine, the more black stuff that comes out, the better the engine becomes. It feels it coming back to its normal stuff. Also the cat smells abit as well [}:)]

I can only believe that Opitmax is cleaning out the carbon s**t from the engine pistons and injection system that was caused by the Bosch 4 sparks.|)

In the meantime, I will check the suggestions above to see, I will get a new set of leads from Hafrauds as well:)

arseofbox: The gaps are preset or already done, well thats what FIAT said.

ivantate: It is possiable, hence other "rubber" stuff is breaking up in the engine (new map tubes)

cracker: Was the sparks redhot?? - this maybe whats happening here, when I got the bosch super 4 sparks out of a few seconds running it was redhot.

custard: Will check.

I don't know if the sparks got hotter, I just meant the other all engine temp seemed to be a bit hotter. It also back fired a few times too.

I feel a 1242 turbo coming on...

Is that for the Super 4's? I looked at the design and gapping them would be an....

Well went to halfords, they have no HT leads for the Sei, shame! - however they did have one for a cinq. Are the cinq and sei 899 engines the same?

Yep. Magnecor High performance leads list the same part numbers for both cars...so I would say yes..
