General Odd noise from my Fiat Marea?

Got a rather strange noise eminating from the timing belt region on tick over, it seems to disapear when the rev's are up and it driving, havent got the time or tools to investigate further due to work commitments. I was wondering if there are any inherent fault around this area that would cause this noise maybe a dodgy timing belt or something equally serious. It will be going down the local garage next week and I dont want to be faced with a bill for £500 so any idea would be a good start. Anyway, its the 1.8ELX 16v on a P plate (97) only cost 800 notes, didnt think that was bad?

It could be the cambelt tensioner they are prone. for this problem and breaking up. If it is a black tensioner defintley get it changed to the modified white one........

Cheers for the reply FiatExpert. Looks like the water pump was on its way out, not to sure about the tensioner but Ill look into it asap!!

Do you by any chance know how much the belt kits are for these motors?
