Punto (Mk2/2b) Number plate movement

Apologies for the absolutely dreadful lighting[emoji23] but I've seen some cars with the plate to the side of the car? Is this legal? And would it look stupid? I'd like to do it but don't fancy getting myself in trouble! Thanks guys

Looks stupid? Good god yes, but that's just my opinion, if you want to do it, just do it.
