Can anyone give me some advice? My Cinq 899cc has noisy tappets on cold start. They quieten when the oil gets around eventually!
I have had the engine flushed and oil/filter change but that has not cured the problem. I known they are hydraulic - Is it a straightforward job to replace them and how much does it normaly cost?

Hydraulic tappets tend to be noisy when you start until the oil gets to them. One of the reasons you should never rev up on starting.

By noisy do you mean that you can tell a small difference in the noise they make when you start...or...do they really sound like they want to leave the engine and go for a walk somewhere else?

If you are worried then a local garage would probably lend you a free ear for a few seconds. mmm... possibly... if you ask them nicely;)

85% of Marea HLX drivers have speeding tickets.... lol they'll have to catch me first.

Had the same problem with my old SX, adjusting them may not solve the problem straight away as the tappets themselves may be faulty.

I paid about £15 each for new ones. You'll need all 8! You can't diagnose which one(s) are knackered as the throttle-body sits on the rocker cover and the engine won't run without it, that's why you'll need to replace all 8.

Speedbumps are my arch enemys!!!

ah, looks easy until one does it :)

So that might cure the problem, excellent

Thanks to all for the help! The noise varies from day to day as does the time it takes to go away! I do not rev the engine while it is still cold of course! I left it overnight at my local friendly garage so he could hear the noise in the morning - there was no noise at all that day! The car goes very well when warm for such a small engine it doesn't notice 4 people in it either!
Think I will live with it for a while then replace all tappets!
