General Noisy fuel pump

HI There
I've just bought a Fiat Punto Mk 2 2001 X Reg 1.2
Drives great until you stop at the lights, then you have to turn up the radio to drown out the sound of the fuel pump.
Are they generally noisy on fiats (can you hear them at all on tickover) or is this a sign of imminent failure.
I thought I was a bit paranoid at first, but I need reassuring (or not).

Nah you shouldn't be able to hear it. Buy a new one ready for when it fails .

welcome to here you should only hear it for a few seconds when you first start car.

you sure its pump and not exhaust vibrating on some thing?

It's the pump you can hear it whirring away.
