Hi
need advice before is spend loads more money (ulysse 19td 2000 t reg )
the problem i have is when traveling on the motorway or between 50-70 mph on flat surface i have a vamping niose (like a soft spot on a tyer)it sounds just like im riding over the cats eyes like a rythmic niose not a whine so i put the front wheels on the back visa versa niose remains in the front.
had the bearings checked wheels balanced then went for tracking at kwik fit they said i had play in track rod drivers side.had two new track rod ends fitted niose still remains.
thinking about new bearings, tyers. drive shafts. kitchen sink
was just wondering if anyone had experenced this
the only other thing of note is that when i turn the car slightly to the right (steering wheel just off centre) the niose seems a little worse same to the turn to the left seems to quieten a little

Thanks for your reply with it being under load do you know if there is any syptoms or signs like play etc when not under load.
friends family (not a mechanic amoung them) say its not a mechanical noise but to be honest i was thinking like you cv or shaft but the only thing that is confusing me with this is the sound is very rythmic da da dum and it doesnt seem to speed up or slow down with the car like you would expect with a tyre etc

best thing is to take it into a empty car park and put the steering on full lock then just go around in circles and see if you can hear the noise one side or the other, if the CV has gone you should hear a knocking noise, but perhaps you can only hear it when it gets under a certain load thats why it never seems to change speed??

hi tried the car park thing and was no nocks or noise turning either way
the problem seems to be getting worse its know making the niose on normal roads and at lower speed

perhaps best to take it to a garage and get the mechanic to diagnoise the noise it might be something that could suddenly let go and either be dangerous or at best you might get stuck somewhere.
sorry but it's very difficult to diagnoise a noise without hearing it

hi thanks for all your replys
spent some more money since
had new track rod ends (kwik fit said one had play garage who changed them said nothing wrong with them) wheels tracked and balanced the garage said it was out (I QUOTE) a country mile noise did reduce a bit.
so took it to the local council garage who dont do repairs they had a look and said bottom ball joint needed replacing possible wheel bearing same side.
had new wish bone fitted today went down the nearby bypass noise had gone. I reached 80mph+ then the bypass bends to the right (long gradual curve) the noise came back.
so long story short the noise is only there now when you hold steering wheel to the right
so next on the list is bearings.
The thing that is stumping me is that the noise isn't a whine or a costant (its a flat spot on a wheel kind of noise) and doesn't alter when braking
i am no mechanic but was under the impression that worn bearings made a costant whine or low rumble please someone tell me im wrong!
anyway will get bearings done and hope that does the trick if not i have no clue where to go from there  :bang:

I have never had bearings fail on my Ulysse, but I have had them wear at the front on a couple of Renaults. The rhythmic noise you describe is exactly what I experienced and it was louder when turning the wheel one way. This is probably due to the loading on the bearing changing. On my first car, the bearing failed altogether and then I got the unmistakable noise of metal on metal.

it appears it was the bearing on inspection one of the ball bearings had lost a big part of its harden casing new bearing no noise :D:D:D:D
moral of the story is start with the cheapest component first if no one has a definitive diagnosis.

thanks again for all your help.(y)(y)(y)
