Hello all.

Thinking of investing in a cheap 2000 (W) 155 ELX as a project. Never had a Marea before.
Problem is the car has no keys at all.:(
What options are open to solve this other than a dealership?
I'm in the NE if this affects suggestions of companies etc.

Many thanks in advance for any suggestions.
Paul.

Thanks guys.

Have seen a couple of places advertising that a replacement key can be cut from the boot lock, and that ecu/ code box can be reprogrammed to accept another key.

Guy in Sheffield is quoting about £200 for all of this.

Anybody done this?

Thanks

Ive heard a fair bit of talk about it, so either here or on Boo. I see no problem with it. I'd try a scrappy or ebay for one being broken though, might be cheaper.

Just noticed codeman is the Sheffield one you reffered to.

Only problem with scrappies local to me is they very rarely have anything with keys to match.

I assume the ECU is specific to 155 models. Does the Bravo HGT use the same setup??? Obviously the wider range of vehicles I can look for, the easier the search would be.

i live in peterlee so i cant be far from you, when i need a lockset with keys and ecu the first place i ask is north east motor salvage, they probably wont have it in stock but they have a "can do" policy and im sure they'll be able to get the parts you need.

locksmiths can cut keys to match a lock, i've seen it done before. it is also possible to reset an ecu to accept a new red key (virginise the ecu) however the cost may be more (£200 isn't bad).

if you have plenty of time on your hands and not much money i'd try getting a lock set with keys and ecu. if you want it done asap and you're willing to pay the £200 for a new key and ecu reset then go for it. although if i was spending that much money i'd want a set of 3 keys, 1 red (master) and 2 blue (slaves).

when i had my 1.6 bravo i needed a full exhaust. i asked them if they could get one and a few hours later they had already removed a mint condition one for me. i got the downpipe, cat, main pipe and even the lambda sensor for £100 with a 3 month warranty. very nice (y)

the only time they couldnt help me was in 2002 when i had a mk1 orion ghia (1986 model) i wanted a gearbox from exactly the same model but they couldn't find one anywhere (no one could). lucky really because that prompted me to fit the gearbox from a 1.1 escort, and thank god i did, the shorter gears made my orion fly.

Nice 1 jug, thanks for the info. Given this would end up being a project, there would be no real rush.

The £200 I mentioned would provide a new set of 1 red master and 2 blue slave keys, as well as the virginised ecu, all cut to match the existing locks on the car.

not a bad price at all. fiat dealers quoted me over 100 just to make and program one key on my girlfriend's punto. so compared to that its a bargain
