few weeks ago i started to get a grinding noise from the rear brakes, got home took the drums off and pads were down to the metal. so changed them both and that was that. day after!!! griding/ABS noise from the front left wheel area. all brakes work well but am still getting the nosie when i brake (at any speed no matter how hard i brake) front the front left wheel area. then after 5 mins of drving the ABS light comes on noise goes away but loose all ABS! so decided to take front wheels off to have a look just to see if a could find any problems with the abs sensors/conectors, all looked ok except the front left wheel sensor looked kinda suspect it was cracked. but it was late so i put it back together and left it at that for the night. morning after on the drive to work mabie 10 mins in, speedo droped buy about 20 mph then 2 secs after drops to 0, the handbrake light comes on and steering goes very light. so very annoyed and kind of blaming myself c since a had been pocking around the night before i went and bought the front left ABS sensor, fitted it and bottem line is its still doing it. If i turn the car off then start it again the speedo works for a while they cuts out but abs light constantly on and no abs. really need some help here. thanks

Speed sensor on the gearbox.
The abs only works above a certain speed (say 5mph) so when it loses the signal from the speed sensor it knows something is wrong because the wheel sensors are telling it there turning fast but the speed sensor says they arnt moving.

my rear shoes weren't fitted properly, causing them to rub on the magnetic ring on the hubs. This is used by the abs iirc.

So, I had the grinding noises at the back, then my abs cutting in all the time, then finally the abs light coming on so there was no abs. I think your problems are similar to mine.

I had to replace both my rear hubs. You can check whether they are damaged first. Take off the drums and have a good look round at the back of the hub, you might even find shavings of metal there.

Iam i not right in saying the puntos with abs dont have a gearbox sensor? i just changed the cluch and i sure didnt see one and theres a plug where it should be on the non abs models.
