After having a bad day yesterday with the car feeling very rough, I decided I would take it to the garage to get it checked out. As the day wore on yesterday I could feel a knocking in the steering wheel get worse and worse. Only when I turn the wheel to the left though. People's opinions were driveshaft, wheel bearings and track rod amongst other things. So I got up and phoned Exhausts Discount in Leeds (top place, highly reccommend). Got in the car and the noise has gone. Either way I drive up there and get it checked. Nothing. Nothing at all can be found wrong with my car (that's gotta be a first!!). So tracking is done as it's a mile out and done for free as they did it two weeks ago.
I then thought "I'm gonna rag it about for half an hour and see if it comes back" so at least then a fault can be found. Sure enough half an hour later, the knocking come back. Back to the garage. Within 2 minutes the fault was found. The U-J joint in the steering shaft is knackerd. It's only tempramental because as the grease gets warmer the joint moves more freely! So, the guy makes a few phone calls and the part is a full steering shaft which fully fitted comes to £149.95. Which is fair. Now I'm happy. It's booked in for Thursday and it's safe to drive until then. Admitedly that brings repairs total up to about £600 and that's money for my spoiler gone but at least I know it's done[^]
Moral of the story, treat your car like a bitch and she'll show you exactly what's wrong with her!
