Wanted to say hi, and a little about myself. I recently bought a 1976 Fiat 124 Spider. It needs a lot of work, but a project is what I wanted, so that's ok. It is on it's way to being a weekend fun toy. Planning a racing and showing it once it's done. Most likely, it won't even be recognizeable as the car it is to most people, except maybe Spider enthusiasts... And they'll probably hate what I've done to it :D

I've already pretty much gutted it out, it sits now at a performance shop awaiting a heart transplant. The entire drivetrain from radiator to tail pipe has been removed.... Something not exactly factory is being prepared for installation  Pretty much all I'm gonna say about it for now is that it should, according to the mechanic, have between 350 - 400 horsepower at the wheels.... And he has a dynometer we can test that on once it's running LOL

PS: I'm going to get a few pictures posted of it this weekend.... Not that there's much to see yet lol. Body is in pretty fair condition, it runs, or rather, did run, before I pulled the motor/tranny, lol

With that much horsepower, I certainly hope you plan on seam welding and spacing the chassis, along with adding additional support bars (a roll cage), roll bar that is also welded and not bolted, replacing the steel hood with a carbon fiber one because if you get into a front end collision, it will be a missile. You may also wish to add a hood lock set to keep the hood down. I just really hope your mechanic knows a lot about this car as well as doing chassis work and modifications for your sake. :)

Good luck with the project! (y)

Didn't even consider the guillotine effect of the forward opening hood.....good call. Ive seen 5.0's dropped in Miatas (even an LS_ from time to time) and none of them could ever put the power down....much less go around corners.

You've got a lot of work to do but if it comes together the way you want it to be, please post videos, it should be awesome to see.
