Morning - I need to replace the seatbelts in my B. I have used the old trick to lubricate them in the past but after 10 years I am happy to replace them. Local Fiat dealer parts department is rubbish - has anyone replaced theirs recently and provide the correct part numbers / price paid and a reputable supplier?
Thank you.

According to ePER, Rel.68, July 2012 the quoted part number was 46755602 costing £105.84 each. Same part for both sides.

This belt is not used on any other Fiat/Lancia or Alfa cars.

As always one should never order a part via Part Number unless you are absolutely sure it is correct. e.g. part number stamped on part being replaced. Your parts supplier is responsible for obtaining the correct part and any error is at their cost. If you get it wrong then it could prove to be a costly mistake.

The same part was used in Fiat Punto I, for back seats. The only difference was an element positioning the belt, which (in Barchetta version) is removable and may be taken from your existing seatbelt.

Does not matter if you buy left or right, they are exchangeable.

Do not order belts for front seats of Punto I as they may be equipped with pretensioners and you do not want that (pretensioners are located at buckle socket in Barchetta, not at the seatbelt mechanism as in Punto I).

You may also browse adds / auctions for other Fiat models to find the same part, if it looks the same it will fit fine too ;)

And you are, of course, aware that the seatbelts in B will never retract as smooth and fast as in other cars? This is due to sharp turn that the belt makes behind the seat, just before its mechanism. There were same third party solutions for that, in form of extra roll or bracket, but I have newer seen it in action. Anyone knows where to buy those?

Hi Richpea - my local Alfa / Fiat Specialist used silicone spray direct onto the seat belt when it was fully extended - did seem to work. Think I might be trying it again prior to my MOT on Friday (Screwfix seem to do a good WD40 version) as when I made an enquiry to my local Fiat Dealer for new belts the Parts Manager asked whether I needed the front or rear belts and then admitted he had no idea what a Fiat Barchetta was!!!!

Thanks for your advice, will get some silicon spray and give it a go.

I suggest you do NOT spray all of the belt.

Sit in the car and belt up. Then clip a cloths peg onto the belt just behind seat back or right in front of the little strap that holds/guides the belt at the top of the seat.

Now you can pull the belt fully out and then spray all the unwound belt up to the peg but not beyond.

Reasons for not spraying the body and lap sections of the belt:

1) part of the design of the belt is the friction it applies to the upper body to help stop shoulder slipping and upper body rotation downward (head towards knees).

2) cloths contamination / excess dust and dirt build up on belt

Oh go on Richpea... drive nekkid like you normally do

Well I try to think outside of the box. For every action/change one may want to make there may be side effects. As long as you know what they are (if any) then you are ahead of the game.

One always has to stand back and think/ask "what if" etc.

When you play devil's advocate you will find that sometimes you get things wrong. No problem as this error/missed item then goes into you tool box for the next time around. I personally never take anything on full face value but accept the advice/information and then ask myself questions/what ifs/etc.

Thankfully most advice and information given in respected forums are perfectly good however it is still better, and you get better education, to rework/rethink on your own two brain cells :).
