General new panda project,

Well this has ground to a halt now.
Rear lights are being a p.I.t.a.. as they say two steps forward three steps back...

Cleaned all the cluster connectors and earths replaced all bulbs with new
And still same problem,
Brake light won't work/no fogs

Fog lights light up on dash but nowt on the cluster's.
Someone's forced wrong bulbs in there in the past and everything is elongated..grrrr.

It.. can go back in the corner of the yard for awhile..until my patience recover's. :(

They're fairly cheap to replace (just make sure you don't get LHD ones, of course...); and someone on here may have a spare set. May be worth popping up a classified ad...?

My Selecta's offside one will need replacing, when I eventually get round to resurrecting it; as will Pippin, the 750L's... -- seems they're slightly fragile....

Have you fed, sorry, cleaned the hedgehogs in the front? I'm not sure if you meant you'd cleaned the connections etc only in the actual light unit? Lots of the problems turn out to be hedgehog related & cleaning them up is a first step (followed by checking the earths and rewiring them if necessary).

Rule number 23
Hedgehog food at the front (either dog-food, or a bit of sandpaper (followed by Vaseline) -- depending on your predilection...); Panda food at the back (bamboo, or petrol... -- only diesel if you're Alixcompo...)! :D

Copperslip man! copperslip is what you use! man theres nothing in my panda thats not been covered with the stuff.. (it gets everywhere!) electronics work spot on though.. hehe :D

if its just all the metal that's been bent then it should be easy to bend back?
i dont think i have a spare sadly. i would have swapped over the bulb holder bit if you fancied the trip to derby.

is it the whole light that has failed? or just the brakes and fog light? if every bulb does not work in the light cluster i'd guess its an earth fault, if some bulbs work then i dont think it would be an earth fault.

check your fuses.. they sometimes corrode in the fuse holders. if you move the around a bit things sometimes start working. again, copper slip is your friend in getting the best conductivity. (or silver thermal paste! bit costly though.)

other than that, i would check the main plug that plugs onto the light cluster. get the tester on that and see of you get any voltages using the boot lock as an earth.

Sounds daft but be sure to check the source of power for your lights. I have just rewired my rear lights as they had black wire, and had so for some time as when I started the job I found that of the previous owners had sourced much of the power from one number plate light feed.

It's worth checking before you proceed, but as the others have said problems mainly lie in the bulb holder contacts

Thanks all.

Ihavent done much with the panda since.
Took rear lights off and gave them a good soak in dishwasher soap.
Roof rails ..have been put back on..so no holes in roof now.. :D

Schubert called round yesterday with his panda .. its looking good.. nice example
For its age.. no welding/body filler or underseal .. to be seen :)

Search for plastic side door trims....to replace the broken ones that we removed ain't to be seen..anywhere on the net..

Wish there was such thing as a time machine so icouid go back 15 years I'd find parts in all the scrap yards then.... :(
