Two topics here. I am currently unsure of whether to go for a new or slightly used sporting 1.9 ( 5000 miles ish). As i am looking to get it remapped anyway, would you say it would be best to get a used car where the engine is already loosened up and so can be remapped straight away or spending that 1-2 k more on a new one and doing 2000 miles before i can realistically look at a remap?

Secondly, september sees the release of the the vauxhall corsa sri with which there will be a 1.7 diesel with 122bhp, 0-60 in 9.3. this is taken from what car :

"The chassis is lowered to improve handling, stability control is fitted as standard and the steering weight is adjusted electronically for greater feel in all conditions.

A front spoiler, body-coloured side sills, 17-inch alloy wheels, and a chrome sports exhaust and tailgate spoiler distinguish the car from conventional Corsas. There are also sports seats with red detailing, a leather steering wheel with red inserts, red seatbelts and alloy pedals."

Ive always been a fan of corsa's and this sounds pretty interesting (very similar to the punto's figures and will have similar gains from a remap) and i am thinking of hanging on until its release before deciding whether to go for that or the punto. Anyone got any opinions on this??

cheers

if you can pick up a slightly used multijet for about £9k, then maybe go for that as im sure a new corsa would cost more. by all means wait though as it does sound quite interesting.

(n) pmsl that does look funny lol

yes i agree but thats just the standard car. The sri looks much better.

it looks like a mini astra, not a fan, all the new cars look the same as each other, new clio looks like new megane, new corsa looks like new astra. the thing that i have noticed with fiats are that all of there models don't look the same. for example the punto don't look like the bravo and the 500 don't look like the punto, all have there own characteristics.

Nothing there really sounds that interesting. I mean red seatbelts? You got them in Sporting Cinqs

Wait.......the Corsa looks crappy but is better quality and better built.....it might suit you better.......'new' is always better than 'used'....don't care what anyone says.
Ideally the G. Punto Abarth is the one that's gonna cover all the bases and will be the best combo......THAT would be the one to buy.

Both good cars imo

Quite a balanced argument for both,

You would probably get more goodies in the punto but I couldn't comment.

I'd go for the GPS but i'm biased as I have one myself.

You are probably better off getting yourself on an unbiased forum as you will probably get a one sided argument on here!

Both nice cars but like already mentioned, new is always better than used

but imo, for you to like a car, i think you need to like how the standard car looks, if you dont like how the standard car looks, you only like the sporty bits, and not the actual car.

and its also not a base mode, its got alloys and stuff... so you just said your self, you dont like the corsa (y)

We've had this whole thing about the new corsa before.. .

i remember working the prices out for the basic corsa sxi 1.7 cdti 125bhp and it was loads more than a GP sporting!

Take a look:
https://www.fiatforum.com/showpost.php?p=878341&postcount=72

Ok the prices have changed a bit now but still.. .
The 1.7 cdti wont be able to map as high as the 1.9 either i wouldnt reckon.. .

and like everyone else says the corsa looks like an inbred astra and new clio beat with an ugly stick.. . even in vxr form!

I was looking at getting a new Corsa Design with the 1.7CDTI engine but when it came down to it a new GP had more features for less money.

I'm glad I went for a Sporting as now I've had it re-mapped it's awesome fun to drive :slayer:

If you can get a good price for a used GP in good nick then it's a good option (y)

And as far as looks go - I think the GP wins hands down - especially the Sporting as the skirts, spoiler and especially the wheels finish off the look of the car perfectly.

i love it when people ask these questions... especially on a biased forum. i'm sure if you went on the corsa-c (is there a corsa d owners club yet?) website and asked which one they though you should get they would say that the corsa was the best thing since sliced bread and the GP is rubbish blah blah blah...

i like the new corsa, but by rights, i reckon it should have the 1.9 cdti engine (iirc, its sourced from fiat) not the 1.7 as tbh, it's a bit of a dog! and i agree that it won't map as high due to it being a smaller engine.

i must admit that personally i think the GP (especially the sporting) is the best looking small car on the market!!!

HTH.
