Re: New Mk2 Punto: Project Orange

I don't see the problem with making the car more to how you want it looking... It's his car at the end of the day.

Re: New Mk2 Punto: Project Orange

You can't improve a car that's good looking as standard...

Good looking and improving are both subjective, everyone is entitled to doing as they please with their own car. While most people would probably agree that a lot of Puntos are overmodified or chavvy. At the end of the day its his car and its not in the spirit of the forum to express negative opinions about what someone has put in time and effort to make it look good to them

Puntos are far, far too good to end up as modified mess. It doesn't matter if fiestas and saxos are modified because they're not decent to begin with.

My punto is only lightly modified and I mean lightly. BMC Filter, Ragazzon exhaust, stubby aerial, Heko deflectors, fiat valve caps, was tempted to lower it but I'm just going to save for an Abarth, however when it was standard people though eh it's an ok car, now with a few light mods people love it. It depends what you do to if.

Again, where did i say anywhere in this thread that the plans for MY punto consisted of making it look like a 1998 chavtastic saxo with spikey bodykit and huge rear wing???

Stop assuming for petes sake. I want to go abarth but thats hardly in the same bracket.

Like bluejohn125, I merely think that they look far better as standard. No car can be 'improved' by being modified.

And what about if,like me, the modifying im doing is using stock parts from other standard puntos??.

It still won't be a standard ELX. An example that was in as good condition as yours when you got it should've been preserved. Now that mk2 Puntos have reached the age where they're starting to go to scrapyards in large numbers, good survivors should be preserved in standard spec, and cherished.

Well if its any consolation so far Ive kept all the stock parts I removed and fully intend to revert it back to standard if/when I sell it on in the future (y)

The point is that the mods / upgrades you started off doing were sensible and legitamate, the problem is your tacky fantasy list of all the things you reckoned you were going to do, plus your artistic impressions of how you thought the poor thing might end up like....

You've already started on the standard Punto path of...

De-badging :confused::rolleyes:

De-rubbing stripping :confused::rolleyes:

Black wheels :confused::rolleyes:

Dreaming of black roof / bonnet :confused::rolleyes:

If you control yourself and maybe fit some correct 14" / 15" Fiat alloys and lower it maybe 35mm (%0mm only for the higher Mk2Bs) then it could still end up looking reasonable (assuming mummy and daddy's insurance are informed).

And don't complain if other people's tastes and opinions don't match yours and those you are trying to impress.

On the plus side you've chosen a good little car so let's hope you enjoy the experience. (y)

What an Abarth bodykit?. A genuine Fiat bodykit instead of a totally aftermarket one?. Seems Tacky :bang: ?

And because I had a little fun on Photoshop? lol overreaction much.

Mate...im only complaining because you came into my thread to just bash my car and tastes. If you dont like the car or my plans/ideas, why post anything in here? did you expect me to say " yeah your right, im an idiot and my own tastes and Ideas are ridiculously rubbish?" People are always going to stick up for themselves when un warranted rubbish gets thrown their way.

I expect better from this place. I havent often seen this sort of a thing, infact its mostly the opposite. Shame some have to let the side down.

This is irrelevant, so you don't like modified cars, let's be honest nobody cares.

Don't hijack someone else's thread to spread your unsolicited opinion, about something no one cares about.

If you don't like something someone else is doing then be constructive but don't be a dick

Again you're being totally unnecessary it's not your car and no one cares what your opinion might be. The point of these forums is people interested in the same thing helping each other out, if you're not interested in the mods this guy is doing then there really is nothing to say, there are all sorts of people on this form and lots of modified cars (the GP section is probably the worst) if you don't like it then to be fair that's tough and has nothing to do with you.

Let's put this in perspective. It's a first car, it's an old punto and it was never that pretty to begin with, the car is being driven and looked after and not scrapped like most cars of this age and in another 3-4 years the scrap yard is likely where it will end up. If he wants to tint the windows fit a body kit install a silly expensive radio or eye lashes and a fairy dust sticker it's entirely up to him.

So in summary, many people mod cars, if you don't like it don't comment.
