Hi people,
Been perusing these forums for a few months now up to and beyond the purchase of my GP. Bought it about a month ago for a very attractive price that had just been knocked down by a grand! Result. The guy selling was moving premises and needed to shift a few motors quicktime and I happened to spot the ad and call him about an hour after he reduced the price. Trained it down to Cheltenham next morning and brought it back that day. Damn thing was so clean I didn't even have the heart to haggle given the reduction already, lol.
A little about it: 2007 (07) plate GP Sporting 16v (N/A), 26k miles with no dings, dinks, dents or scratches bar a scuff mark on the rear corner of the bumper that buffed out with T-Cut (love that stuff, it's like Just For Men for cars). It had full service history and had just had new Continental tyres all round. After reading through this forum I knew what things to look for despite being from the motor trade a few years back, having model specific knowledge is always very helpful so thank you all for your ramblings on all things grrrr.
Basically, I found none of the faults that have been mentioned and only buying that one way train ticket was a gamble that paid off. I'd been looking for some time for one that fit my requirements moneywise and was originally looking at an '06 or '56 so luck is on my side for now. Took a long time for one to crop up though, they seem really rare with most of the ads being M/T-Jets. Unfortunately, after a long while driving various company vans and cars for different people my NCB lapsed and insurance became an issue but as I live in London, there's no real need for speed, a nippy city car is all that's required.
I first drove a GP in Italy, a 4 door. Not sure what model but it had A/C although I'm sure it was a 1.2. I have a friend with family over there so we visit a lot and I always hire GP's. Done the drive along the Amalfi Coast and down to Gaeta and decided that I'd like one if the opportunity arose. Well now it has and I'm proper happy with it. I've just started a driving instructor course with the AA so chances are I'll only have the car for 18 months or so. I've just put it through it's first ever MOT and it came back with absolutely no issues, not even any 'it's on it's way out, but passable' notes. Luckily, I know the MOT guys from my mechanic days so they always pay my cars a little extra attention, hehe, probably more because they WANT to find fault.
I better shut up now, let you guys get a word in.
